I’m Jason S. Comely, the creator of the Bimodal Blitz method and author of BLITZED: What I Learned Reading 100 Books in 100 Days in My Target Language. I also created the self-help hit Rejection Therapy and the Cool Continuum.

If you’re familiar with my work, you know I’m all about pushing the boundaries. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to my latest endeavor: Shadowvoxing.

BEYOND THE PAGES

When I dove into the Bimodal Blitz 100 Book Blitzathon, my goal was simple yet ambitious: to find out how much Polish I could learn by reading 100 Polish books and listening to their audiobooks over 100 consecutive days. It was a wild ride. Immersing myself in the language through literature not only expanded my vocabulary but also deepened my cultural understanding.

BUT HERE’S THE THING…

Even after all that reading and listening, I still felt a barrier when it came to speaking. The fear and inhibition of actually producing the language out loud were real challenges—ones that many learners face, myself included. I realized I needed a new way to bridge the gap between understanding the language and actually speaking it.

WHERE SHADOWVOXING COMES IN

Shadowvoxing is a method I’ve developed to help language learners overcome the fear of speaking by harnessing the power of music and movement. The idea is straightforward: if you can sing along to songs in your target language, you can speak it. Singing lets you practice pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation in a fun and engaging way.

HOW DOES SHADOWVOXING WORK?

Here is the basic scaffolding of the Shadowvoxing method, but keep in mind the real deal is in the details, which I’ll share with you in future blog posts.

Collect Music in Your Target Language
Music has a knack for embedding itself in our minds, making it a powerful tool for language retention. But not just any music will do. I’ll show you how to pick songs that are optimal for memorizing and speaking. Trust me, the right tracks make all the difference.

Sing Along and Shadow
As you get familiar with the songs, start singing along. If you’ve chosen the right songs using the Shadowvoxing method, learning and singing them will feel like the most natural thing in the world. No forcing it—just pure enjoyment. Also, songs are gold mines of colloquial language, idioms, and everyday expressions. By learning the lyrics, you’re picking up new words and phrases that you can immediately use in conversation.

Discover Your Voice
Singing breaks down the psychological barriers associated with speaking. As you grow comfortable singing in the language, you’ll find that your speaking voice emerges naturally—backed by improved pronunciation and a boost in confidence.

WHY SHADOWVOXING WORKS

Let’s face it: the fear of speaking a new language often stems from self-consciousness and the worry of making mistakes. Shadowvoxing flips the script by shifting the focus from speaking correctly to simply enjoying the act of singing. Music is forgiving; it’s meant to be expressive and emotive, not perfect. This mindset lets you practice without the pressure that typically comes with speaking exercises.

Plus, the rhythmic and melodic elements of music make memorization and recall a breeze. The repetition in songs reinforces vocabulary and grammatical structures subconsciously. Before you know it, you’re not just singing—you’re speaking.
